Has anyone read this series?
A friend recommended the dark elf trilogy and I can't stop reading R.A. Salvatore's books now! I highly recommend them if anyone is looking for an awesome fantasy series. I've read about 20 books centered around the various characters - all excellent!

They're Dungeons & Dragons novels. However, they're no more inaccessible to people who don't play D&D than any other fantasy series. And thankfully, they have nothing at all to do with the horrible Dungeons & Dragons movie, nor the equally awful made-for-television sequel.
I'll try and give a little summary of what the series is about without spoiling too much:
Drizzt Do'Urden is a drow (dark elf), who unlike the vast majority of his race, is not evil and doesn't worship the evil spider-goddess Lolth. The Dark Elf Trilogy deals with his living among his own people, but the rest of the books take place after he's moved out of their subterranean city and has to deal with all the hatred and mistrust that comes from being a member of a race notorious for their evil and treachery. All of this while also killing lots of monsters and dueling his nemesis Artemis Entreri on several occasions.
I haven't read all of the books, but most of the ones I have read were pretty good. The only one that I really didn't like was the one that focused on Wulfgar (a human barbarian and friend of Drizzt). Wulfgar simply isn't interesting enough in my opinion to be the main character of the story, which is ironic since he was originally intended to be the main character when R.A. Salvatore first started writing his first novel. He quickly realized that Drizzt was a much more compelling character, though.

I might check those out after I finish the Wheel of Time. Salvatore is batting about .500 with me - I hated most of his DemonWars books and his one foray into Star Wars was a total disaster.

I haven't read them all, but if I could make it through the later half of the Sword of Truth series (talk about preachy!) then I can probably make it through those.

been trying to remember the name of the other series he did. its about a monk named cadderly, i believe, its a forgotten realms series (ther are five books) the hero uses a weapon that mightily resembles a yoyo.

Ah yes. The Cleric Quintet, I believe it's called. I have that around here somewhere.
